    • Annie’s Bunny Cookies (2 bags)
    • Mini-Marshmallows
    • Milk Chocolate M&M’s
  • OPTIONAL: Salted Peanuts

Instructions

  1. Gather all of the ingredients into a common space in your classroom. A large table works well so all of your students can easily gather around.

To encourage a positive classroom community and keep students engaged, allow them to take turns helping you complete these steps.

The Importance of Teaching Writing in Early Elementary

Teaching writing skills is crucial in early elementary classrooms. It’s not only important as a foundation for more advanced writing skills but for communication and language skills too. Students also practice creativity, critical thinking, and self-expression skills as they write.

You might be thinking, “But is this really necessary to add a writing task to the fun?”, and I will always respond with a resounding “YES!”. Adding educational elements into super fun, engaging activities is the PERFECT opportunity for learning!

Opportunity for Differentiation

The simple how-to writing page is easily differentiated for students at all learning levels in your classroom.

Some students may need to copy the text directly from the board while others can work to create their own sentences. Find a balance that allows for individualized learning and ensures that each student can confidently participate in this fun spring writing activity and grow their writing skills at their own pace!

Packaging and Sharing

The fun doesn’t stop when the writing is complete. It’s time to package and share!

Scoop the finished Bunny Tail Trail Mix into small cellophane bags or paper cups– perfect for individual-sized treats. Label the bags or cups with the cute FREE trail mix gift tags from the freebie above!

Students practice handwriting skills as they sign their names onto the tags. Encourage them to take a bag home to share with a special friend or family member or draw names within the classroom so that no students are left out and everyone gets to taste-test the yummy Easter treat together.

More Ideas for Sharing

Another great option for sharing the Bunny Tail Trail Mix is to incorporate the CVC Mystery Partner game. Randomly give each child a CVC word card or corresponding picture card.

Students put their heads down or close their eyes (you know what will work best for your little ones!). When students open their eyes or lift their heads, instruct them to walk around the classroom to find their partner.

When they find their match, they both sit down together. Mystery solved! Then they exchange snack bags and enjoy the sweet treat together. (Another sweet win for a positive classroom community!)

Spring is a season for growth, and what better way to teach your students than through an interactive and tasty snack and writing activity for spring? Your class will love making and eating the Bunny Tail Trail Mix while practicing better writing skills all at the same time!
